Energize your space…Which colours do I need?…

Chakra candles 3Colour is essential for our health. We need all the colours to be emotionally, physically and spiritually well. Each colour vibrates at its own frequency and plays a specific role in our well-being.

Here follows the seven basic colours of the rainbow and how each colour contains different properties for health.

Red: Vitality, Courage, Self-confidence, Stimulation, Energy, Assertiveness.
Use when you need to meet a demanding day, or when you feel drained of energy. The colour red provides the power from the earth and gives energy on all levels. It connects us to our physical body. Everything that is to be commenced needs the life vitality of red.

ORANGE: Happiness, Confidence, Resourcefulness, Warmth, Optimism, Creativity.
Brings joy to our workday and strengthens our appetite for life! Orange is the best emotional stimulant. It connects us to our senses and helps to remove inhibitions and makes us independent and social.

YELLOW: Wisdom, Clarity, Self-esteem, Joy, Success, Mental Clarity.
Gives us clarity of thought, increases awareness, and stimulates interest and curiosity. Yellow energy is related to the ability to perceive and understand. The yellow energy connects us to our mental self.

GREEN: Balance, Love, Self control, Nature, Harmony, Heart.
Cleanses and balances our energy, to give a feeling of renewal, peace and harmony. Green connects us to unconditional love and is used for balancing our whole being.

BLUE: Knowledge, Health, Decisiveness, Communication, Truth, Loyalty.
This is a mentally-relaxing colour. Blue has a pacifying effect on the nervous system and brings great relaxation. Ideal for sleep problems, and hyper-active children. Connects us to holistic thought, and gives us wisdom and clarity, enhancing communication and speech.

INDIGO: Intuition, Mysticism, Understanding.
The indigo energy connects us to our unconscious self, and gives us the experience of being part of the whole universe. Strengthens intuition, imagination, psychic powers, and increases dream activity.

VIOLET: Beauty, Creativity, Inspiration.
The violet energy connects us to our spiritual self bringing guidance, wisdom and inner strength. It enhances artistic talent and creativity.

There are of course exceptions to these colours. You may have a negative memory associated with a specific colour, and so it may mean something different to you. But that is a whole story on its own.

Chakra candles: I use the chakra candles when I want to bring more of a certain colour into my awareness, or when I have friends or clients requesting Distance Reiki for specific difficulties in their lives (Physical, Emotional, Mental or Spiritual).

Here is one example of how I use all the candles together. The rose quartz in the centre represents the people that I am sending Distance Reiki to (It really is just a visual reminder for me). When sending to more than one person, or to a person who is very ill, I light all the candles in sequence from the purple down to the red.

Another way in which I use the candles is when I am wanting specific help on a particular day. And on a day like today, writing blogs and trying to be ‘Oh so creative’, this yellow candle helps clear the mind and bring mental clarity.

There is so much more that can said about about colour and chakras, but we will leave that for another day.

I’ve got joy deep down in my heart…Let’s access it!

Heart chakraThe year has begun and what better way to start it than with a loving gift to yourself. We could all do with a little more joy in our lives. Sometimes the stresses and worries of everyday life can seem overwhelming. By connecting deeply with our emotional heart we can learn to relax and celebrate life.

Joy is a quality of the heart that happens when your body, mind and heart all function in harmony. When you are joyful your body is relaxed, your mind is calm and your heart is overflowing with energy, love and peace.

1. Sit relaxed with your eyes closed. Breathe deeply a few times and sigh on each out breath.

2. Place your hands on the middle of your chest and bring to mind a past or current situation that has caused or is causing you pain or suffering. Breathe in and welcome the feeling. If tears come, just let them happen. Accept any emotion that arises and allow yourself to move deeply into the simple energy of the feeling, without the mind putting labels or judgements on it.

3. Then, as you breathe out, reconnect with a feeling of peace, love or joy. Allow the out breath to carry the blessings of peace, joy and love.

Love and compassion…How does Reiki give these qualities?

foot reiki 1Giving and receiving Reiki can be one of the most loving acts that you can do for yourself and another. How is this possible you may ask? There are so many acts of kindness, so many methods of DOING compassion and of DOING love.

foot reiki 2Well that’s just the point you see, while giving or receiving Reiki, you are DOING nothing. You are BEING. The Reiki practitioner allows the Reiki (Universal Life Force) to flow where it is most needed. S/he does not need to do anything except be present and move his/her hands to various points on the receiving person’s body.

The person receiving the Reiki agrees to accept the Reiki and allow it to flow where it is most needed in his / her body.

Life has a way of getting you where you need to be…

Self-reiki-footI often get asked the question: Why do you practice Reiki? What does it actually do for you? Well, this time I would like to answer that question from a more personal point of view.

A big part of Reiki is self Reiki. A person who has done the first level of Reiki is encouraged to do self Reiki as a daily discipline. Doing this on a daily basis helps keep me in a balanced state. It also keeps me mindful of this present moment and helps me to stay present to what is happening now without me constantly living in the past with such words as “Remember when we…” or “If only…”. Or projecting into the future with such words as “What if…?” or “Maybe…”.  Yesterday has gone, tomorrow still has to be unwrapped, but I am here in this eternal moment.

Over the past nine years, I have slowly gotten better at practising regularly, and those weeks when I keep to the discipline of self Reiki on a daily basis, I am able to remain present to whatever life has to teach me. To remain calmer, more caring and more open and accepting of others.

This gentle, hands on, technique has helped me to learn from my mistakes, to curb my anger and to be compassionate with myself as I continue to learn and grow in this life.
