The Universal laws in action…

labyrinthThis morning during my spiritual development time, I read the following which reminded me of the importance of living by universal laws rather than the laws put before us by the world. This is what it said…

“If we want to live the life of Truth, we must obey the Universal
laws. Our well-being or otherwise depends on whether
we do or do not abide by them.”

So I took a look back at what I had learned a while ago about Universal Laws. It was written by Deepak Chopra. I have a habit of forgetting what I have learned and then trying to reinvent the wheel. Yet, these laws are so relevant to our everyday life, to living in a way that is loving to ourselves, to others and the Creator.

We as human beings function according to the truths and rules of society and those we made ourselves while growing up. Our souls obey only the laws of the universe, also known as the spiritual laws. If our truths and those of the universe are not in alignment, it creates frustration, obstacles, stagnation or literally a cosmic slap in the face.  The laws of the universe are based on Love.

Most of our human truths are based in fear and fear is the root of all evil. The moment we integrate more of the universal truths into our life, the more we flow with our soul purpose and with the energies of the universe.

Deepak Chopra speaks of these Universal laws:
1. The law of willingness
2. The law of resistance
3. The law of action
4. The law of request
5. The law of gratitude
6. The law of attention
7. The law of attraction

I would suggest that you write what you think each of these laws means for you and over the next couple of weeks we will look at what it is we have found out. This is a lovely time to share our insights. Feel free to email me at sacredsutine@gmail.com and we can put our collective thoughts together for next week.

Be Kind to others…(I am compassionate to myself and others)

compassionAnd so we come to the 5th Reiki Principle: There are many versions of this principle:

  • Give thanks for every living thing
  • Be kind to others
  • Be thankful for the many blessings
  • Show gratitude for all living things

These are all saying the same thing, just using different words.

Before giving a Reiki treatment we can say thank you to life for being used as a channel for healing. We are not separate from other living beings but interconnected through Universal Life Energy – humans, animals and plants.

Being aware of this, we allow compassion and love to come into our lives. This is what kindness means. It is another form of love, compassion and respect for each other.

In this day and age, there is so much that we tend to take for granted, but there are many things in life, both big and small, to be grateful for; our own body, our health, good food, the beauty of nature, or the joy of a child.

As we become more aware of how precious and spontaneous life is, we can appreciate life itself and existence; and we can feel grateful for each new event in the sense of “Thy will be done”. Then the whole of life becomes a prayer.

self compassionIn our growth and awareness let us adopt gentleness, kindness, and consideration for all of God’s creatures. Respect for life is respect for the divine Wisdom and love inherent in all creations from the God-force. All matter radiates sound and light.

Mother earth is a living, breathing creation of the Divine. She is linked to humanity as humanity is linked to Mother Earth. We cannot deface her nor others without suffering the consequences of our unconscious actions. So, let us become aware of the needs of Mother Earth and the needs of humanity through respect, compassion and love.

Feeling anxious…worried…fearful…? How Reiki has helped others…

self-reiki-solar plexusWhen I started learning Reiki, the thing that intrigued me the most was how calm my Reiki teacher was. My fellow student and myself would arrive for lessons harassed and with a hundred and one reasons why it was impossible to practise self Reiki for a full hour every day. The teacher would just smile and encourage us to give it our concerted effort for at least twenty-one days.

Looking back at that time, I can feel compassion for my younger self. In this world of quick fixes and instant access, it is challenging to slow ourselves down, to take a moment to breathe. It is even more difficult to spend time alone with ones self and give love and compassion which is directed within.

The most encouraging and exciting news that I can give you today is that it really does work. With perseverance, and a little bit of self-love, the daily self Reiki becomes a good and healthy habit. The positive outcome of a daily dose of self Reiki is that fears, worries and anxieties subside.

If you would like to learn how to do self Reiki, my next class begins on the second Sunday in July. The classes are once a week for 7 weeks. The lessons include basic energy healing (learning more detail about chakras, auras and meridians) and Reiki 1.

I’ve got joy deep down in my heart…Let’s access it!

Heart chakraThe year has begun and what better way to start it than with a loving gift to yourself. We could all do with a little more joy in our lives. Sometimes the stresses and worries of everyday life can seem overwhelming. By connecting deeply with our emotional heart we can learn to relax and celebrate life.

Joy is a quality of the heart that happens when your body, mind and heart all function in harmony. When you are joyful your body is relaxed, your mind is calm and your heart is overflowing with energy, love and peace.

1. Sit relaxed with your eyes closed. Breathe deeply a few times and sigh on each out breath.

2. Place your hands on the middle of your chest and bring to mind a past or current situation that has caused or is causing you pain or suffering. Breathe in and welcome the feeling. If tears come, just let them happen. Accept any emotion that arises and allow yourself to move deeply into the simple energy of the feeling, without the mind putting labels or judgements on it.

3. Then, as you breathe out, reconnect with a feeling of peace, love or joy. Allow the out breath to carry the blessings of peace, joy and love.

Giving love and healing to animals in Rescue Shelters…

melissa and horseMelissa has always had an affinity with animals and when she and her dad Lewis learnt Reiki, she chose to share this healing touch with animals in Rescue shelters.

How does Reiki work with animals?
Reiki helps to bring balance to the body, and in this way helps to energize and vitalize an animal’s system. Rescue animals are often traumatized and Reiki can soothe and calm the stressed animal.

If an animal has been put into a shelter because the owners have relocated, these animals are very often depressed and lethargic, not understanding where the human that they bonded with has gone. Melissa also volunteers at the Husky Rescue KZN in Cato Ridge. These beautiful creatures will gather around to get their share of the Reiki. They don’t necessarily need to be touched to feel the benefits.

Melissa and the huskiesReiki brings a sense of calm and well-being to these animals, as well as bringing light faster moving energy to their situation thereby giving them healing and assisting with their re-homing. Melissa relates the story of one such incident: “When I first went to Husky Rescue there was a boy named Blaze that they weren’t sure would be able to be rehabilitated and re-homed because of dominance and aggression that was caused at his previous home. The lady in charge let me go into his pen with her, and it was actually the first time he had allowed her to take his collar off and replace it without biting …. I sent him distant healing once I was home and went back again to work with him….. It was about 2-3 weeks and he had calmed and become a happy Husky and had succeeded in been re-homed! A check up was done a few weeks later and he was a completely different dog and was so friendly.”

Lewis and donkeysMelissa and Lewis have worked with some of the horses and donkeys at Out of the Blue in Alverston. Melissa notes how the horses will come to her, as if sensing that she can help them on that subtle level. Lewis related how the donkeys just can’t get enough of the Reiki and will crowd around to get some of the warm healing energy and loving touch.

The Reiki Principles…How do I understand them?…

reiju and attunementsThe Reiki Principles are an important part of Reiki learning. Mikao Usui, the founder of the system of healing called Reiki, had this to say about the 5 principles:
“The Secret Method of Inviting Blessings, The Spiritual Medicine of Many Illnesses
For today only, do not anger,
do not worry.
Do your work with appreciation.
Be kind to all people.
In the morning and at night hold your hands in prayer, repeat these words out loud and in your heart.
For the improvement of body and mind.”

Take a moment to view this video which was put together by Antoinette Emerson. It explains these principles in lovely quotes by famous authors and spiritual leaders. Enjoy.

“Give thanks for every living thing…Including ourselves!…

gratitudeOne of the five precepts that we learn in Reiki is: “Give thanks for every living thing.” Here is a video which Pedram Shojai and his team have made available for free for a limited time. It is called Origin.

While watching it, some thoughts that came to mind are:

* Am I living in gratitude with all that lives on this planet?
and
* Am I living in gratitude and treating my body as the intricate part of this ecosystem that it is?

I encourage you to take the time and watch this movie. It is just over and hour and a half long, so watch when you know you will not be interrupted.
