God respects me when I work, but God loves me when I sing…Tagore

The Healer by South African artist Dina Cormic

Tagore once said: God respects me when I work, but God loves me when I sing. These words have been going around and around in my head as I try to make a living doing what I am passionate about and what bring healing to others.

I have found myself, this past month, losing myself in the “WORK”. Focusing on bringing in the money and losing my focus on what my purpose is in doing the work that I’m doing.

When reading this simple and profound quote, my first reaction was: “That can’t be right. Imagine if I just wasted my life singing and playing? This doesn’t pay the bills.” But, after sitting with it for a while, I think I got it. My own interpretation, I agree, but one that made sense to me in my current situation.

Yes, it is important to work as we all have to eat and pay the bills. But…when I sing, when I dance, when I remember the joy of living, then I am truly giving thanks to The Divine Presence/Creator/God for my existence.

Lots of love, light and harmony

One person’s personal journey with cancer and Reiki…

mind body spiritIn August 2014, a young woman came for Reiki treatments. She had been diagnosed with stage II of an aggressive type of breast cancer and had decided to do the chemo and radiation therapy as suggested by her oncologist and surgeon. The tumour needed to be shrunk before it could be removed as it was quite close to her chest wall.
She decided to give her body the support it needed to be able to take the severe chemicals included in the therapy. This support included healthy eating, juicing and regular Reiki treatments.
Throughout her chemotherapy she came once a week for Reiki. Some weeks were really challenging…her hair fell out, her blood count was sometimes too low and there was a worry that a chemo treatment would have to be postponed, the nausea and weakness sometimes kept her away for a week. But this young woman persevered and constantly spoke with a positive attitude of getting up and showing up. By December the tumour had shrunk and the doctors agreed that it was time for it to be removed. After the operation she went away on a week’s holiday to rest and recuperate, and by the time she returned she was feeling so much stronger and even took to running every morning.
As soon as she was able, she also returned to the weekly Reiki sessions. The radiation treatments began and lasted for six weeks. She continued to drink her daily juices and healthy eating plan (with the occasional sugary slip).
Reiki lightTwo weeks ago the radiation was completed but the Reiki, positive attitude and juicing continues. There will come a time when the Reiki will only need to be a monthly session, but for now, as her body continues to heal and release the toxins left over from the cancer therapies, the weekly sessions are important. The most important part of this story is this young woman’s willingness to give her body the support it needed during this challenging time.

So how is Reiki continuing to help?
• It creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension,
• It accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities,
• Aids better sleep,
• Helps relieve pain
. Helps drain the lymphatic system
• Assists the body in cleaning itself from toxins,
• Reduces some of the side effects of drugs and helps the body to recover from drug therapy after surgery and chemotherapy,
• Supports the immune system,
• Increases vitality

Are you a Reiki sceptic?…Then this is for you

“It has to be the Reiki!”

feet and reikiToday I received a very positive, Reiki affirming letter from a past Reiki client who became a student and has now continued on her chosen path of healing… Reiki is life-giving on all levels. Thank you Jessica for sharing.

No one can say it better than Jessica herself…

Hi Sue,

As per our discussion on my facebook post:

I would really like to thank you for your training in Reiki, and assistance in tuning me in energetically; and guiding me to connect to intuition, body, mind, and soul.

Though I was trained on how to pick up on physical problems in Reflexology, I truly do believe that my Reiki training has laid an incredible foundation for my Reflexology; and possibly also for any other alternative therapies that I may learn in future!

When I started my case studies I was excited and anxious, thinking “Okay, I’m going to have to be patient here, I’m sure I will start picking up the signs with more and more practise”.  However, I was astounded at the rate that I was tuning in from the first client!  And…I was able to often give detailed accuracy on physical problems as I worked on their feet.

JessicaI thought to myself, “It has to be the Reiki!”

Thank you so much for all you have taught me Sue.  I would like for you to please share my account with your students, old and new. Training in energy healing can be very helpful in other hands on modalities.

Much Appreciated!
Jess

So What is Reiki?…Why would it benefit me?

subtle energy 2This is a question that a Reiki practitioner is often asked. In this very short introduction, William Rand gives a very brief introduction. Just 2.25 minutes of watching.

For more information please contact me and I will reply to you personally.

“How Do I know If You Are The Right Reiki Practitioner or Teacher for me?

Reiki teacher practitionerThis question is asked often and it is a very good one to ask. For me, one of the best features of Reiki is that it empowers us on every level. We take our lives into our own hands, so to speak, and realise that if we want to live healthy well lives, we need to know more about what is right for us. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and here are a few good questions to start with.

Pamela Miles, an American Reiki Teacher/Practitioner has written an article titled “3 Questions for Reiki Practitioners”. This is well worth the read as questions open one up to a deeper understanding. Read her full article here: http://reikiinmedicine.org/clinical-practice/questions-for-reiki-practitioners/

Here are some more questions that can get you started, whether you are considering experiencing a Reiki session, or whether you are wanting to learn Reiki for yourself.

1. What is Reiki?

A Reiki Teacher/Practitioner will be able to tell you in a few short sentences, what Reiki is. For example: “Reiki healing is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and well being to the recipient. ”

2. Does Reiki have healing benefits?

One of the greatest Reiki healing health benefits is stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the bodies natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health.

We don’t need to sell the benefits of Reiki.

3. What is your Reiki lineage?

This question is very important as a Reiki practitioner should be able to trace him/herself back to Dr Mikao Usui.

Position 2

4. Are you registered with your local Reiki Association?

This question may seem pedantic, but if the Reiki practitioner/teacher is registered, then you have the peace of mind that s/he is willing to follow a code of ethics while teaching or practising Reiki.

A helpful local site is: The Reiki Masters Association of South Africa: http://www.reikihealing.co.za

5. Do you practice Reiki on yourself?

If a practitioner/teacher is practising daily Reiki, s/he is walking his/her talk. You will see it in the person’s attitude and way of life.

Have a happy Reiki day!

Sue

A True Reiki Story…Back Trouble…

reiki healing 3A friend of mine has for many years suffered with back problems, which has been exacerbated by osteoporosis. In June 2005, her back had become so bad that the doctor recommended 12 cortisone injections directly into the lumbar bones. She was also told that she would need to rely on a neck and back brace to help ease the pain. He said that she would need to have these injections every 6 months. It was not an option to operate because of the osteoporosis.

At this time I was a new Reiki student, and asked her if I could please practice on her. She willingly agreed. She went overseas in the July for a month, and I asked if I could please practice distance healing on her, again, she willingly agreed.

healing energy lightWhen she returned from her trip, she said that she had woken up some mornings feeling well. We worked out that it had been those mornings when healing had been sent. We continued once a week, and now, once a month with Reiki treatments. To date, she has not had to have any more cortisone injections. She began exercising gently, and then about 2 years ago (2012) she started aqua exercising twice a week, and doing core muscle exercises every morning. This wonderful lady no longer wears the braces, and she can work in the garden, go for walks and pick up medium weight boxes. The doctor had told her she would always need to be careful to avoid placing too much strain on her back. Her osteoporosis has been arrested-not getting any worse. Her entire outlook on life has changed from those dismal days in 2005.

With Reiki we put no emphasis on the outcome of each session. The energy works where it is most needed. Yet it is stories like this that remind us that if our energy fields are strong and supported, we can and do feel the physical benefits.
